A new role for Toros from IFA, the umbrella organisation of the fertiliser industry

Toros Agri was invited to join the Strategic Advisory Team of the newly formed Sustainability Committee within the International Fertilizer Association (IFA). Burcu Türkeş, the Corporate Sustainability, Risk and Governance Director of Toros Agri, will continue to represent Toros Agri in the Sustainability Committee, which aims to guide the steps to be taken by the fertiliser industry, which plays an important role in ensuring global food security, in line with its sustainability goals.

Toros Agri continues to take important roles in the International Fertilizer Association (IFA) as an active member. As the most important sectoral organization, representing the global fertiliser industry with nearly 500 members from 69 countries, IFA plays an active role in planning the future of the fertiliser industry as a sustainable sector. There is a deep-rooted relationship between the organisation and Toros Agri that goes back for years. The president’s post at IFA was assumed by Erhan Öner, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Toros Agri, between 1993 and 1995 and by Esin Mete between 2013 and 2014.

Burcu Türkeş, the Corporate Sustainability, Risk and Governance Director of Toros Agri, has been successfully representing the company at IFA since 2019. Burcu Türkeş also takes part in the Sustainability Working Group and in the Strategic Advisory Team (SAT) of the Technical & Safety, Health and Environment Committee within IFA.

In the last Board of Directors Meeting of IFA, the organisational structure of the Association has been redesigned in order to more effectively fulfil the strategic priorities related to sustainability and stakeholder communication. In this context, it was decided to unite the Sustainability Working Group and the Technical & Safety, Health and Environment Committee, where Burcu Türkeş also served, under a single roof. In parallel with this development, Toros Agri was invited to join the SAT within the newly established Sustainability Committee. As before, Burcu Türkeş, the Corporate Sustainability, Risk and Governance Director, will represent Toros Agri in the new formation.

Speaking on the subject, Burcu Türkeş stated that she was very happy to take part in an important decision committee of IFA once again, which she has been working in close contact with since the first day she took office in Toros. Pointing out to the fact that taking part in this committee is important for the international representation of both Toros and the Turkish fertiliser industry, Türkeş added that she believes this task will be very beneficial in terms of following the trends in the global fertiliser industry.

With this new umbrella committee, IFA not only focuses on common solutions to the global “End Hunger and Malnutrition” goal of the fertiliser industry, which is vital for global food security, but also aims to play an active role in protecting the environment, and preventing drought and biodiversity loss with sustainable agricultural practices. While the new formation will guide the sector with a common sense in line with its sustainability goals, it will also lead the fertiliser producers in taking steps for a sustainable future and in good practice examples.
