Ms. Esin Mete made the opening speech of “the Sustainable Fertilizer Management for Soil Health National Seminar” organized by IFA-FAI

Ms. Esin Mete, Chairwoman of Toros Agri and President of International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA), delivered a speech at “the Sustainable Fertilizer Management for Soil Health National Seminar” held in New Delhi province of India on the 16th and 17th of March 2015. In her opening speech, Ms. Mete made important statements regarding the fertilizer management and soil health and she explained her opinion that the seminar will make a great contribution to informative purposes for the promotion of more innovative practices and products with the aim of improving the developed nutrient use and productivity; for the strengthening of access to farmers with the aim of adoption and fast propagation of the best fertilizer management practices; and for the improvement of soil health and product yield.

During her speech, she reminded that the sustainable fertilizer management is amongst the industry’s priorities at a global scale and stated her concern about the inefficient and unbalanced use of fertilizer in India despite the increase in its utilization. Ms. Mete added that the industry’s one of the most important needs is the improvement of information on the balanced product nutrient and training of farmers on this subject.

Other than India’s problems, Ms. Esin Mete emphasized in her speech the points relating to the industry at a global scale regarding the requirement for the development and propagation of information on balanced product nutrient in connection with the unbalanced fertilizer use and its less and excess utilization; the requirement for training farmers on area- and product-specific suggestions to improve the nutrient performance globally; and the requirement for the introduction of innovations.
During her speech, she dealt with the issues of “Nutrient Management” and “Yield Gap” and emphasized that these issues are of the top priority for IFA.

Reminding IFA’s active participation in the United Nations International Year of Soils, Ms. Mete added that they are also a member of the Executive Board of Global Soil Partnership. Explaining that they are developing a website titled Growing Smart Together in order to raise awareness, Ms. Mete said that the project will be launched in Berlin on the occasion of Global Soil Week to be held between the 19th and 23rd of April 2015. Ms. Mete finally stated that they are preparing a website titled Nutriens4soil.info where they curate soil resources and that they are publishing a scientific journal that contains the opinions of world-renowned soil experts.
